Welcome to Survive-It!
For 25 years, I have worked on the front line of disaster responses, providing Emergency Support Services (ESS) to help families forced to flee their homes due to an emergency or disaster. Each year the number of disasters across our province is increasing, and I work with Community ESS Teams to ensure they are ready to respond when called upon. I do this by conducting exercises for their ESS team, facilitating ESS Responder training and reviewing and updating the community’s ESS plans.
In addition to disaster response, I conduct Disaster Preparedness Workshops for businesses and groups to ensure their people are prepared for disaster.

As a result of my work, people and communities often share that they have peace of mind knowing they have a Disaster Plan to support them when unexpected events happen to keep their families and communities safe.
On a personal note, I love to travel through Canada, Europe and the USA to places I have never been, and when at home in White Rock, I love to hike the many nearby trails through the forests and on the beaches.
Disasters can change your life in mere seconds, turning everything upside down. Making sure you, your family and pets are properly prepared for a disaster can make a world of difference in how you get through the disaster and how you survive in the aftermath.

We needed help getting a community-led emergency preparation program on its feet for Hemlock Valley, BC. Thank goodness we found Jackie Kloosterboer and Survive-It Disaster Preparedness. Jackie was friendly and accessible. She learned our situation, listened to our goals, and understood the hurdles we had to get over to achieve them. It was such a relief to have Jackie host a community Zoom meeting where she constructively introduced our objectives and strategy to homeowners, as well as providing useful advice and checklists for individuals to better protect themselves, their families, and their homes in the event of a disaster. Jackie even hosted an in-person training session in our local firehall for volunteers that wanted to support local emergency services and community efforts during a crisis to better safeguard the people that need it most.
Thanks to Jackie’s thoughtful and effective contributions, the Hemlock Valley Emergency Look-out Program (H.E.L.P.) is born and well positioned to grow into our very own Emergency Support Service. This is vitally important in an alpine community deemed a high risk of disasters and is vulnerable to slow emergency response times.
